Clearance for can lights

I intend to build soffits in my garage from 2x6s and install 5" can lights every 4' for accent. My concern if the can lights are 5.5" tall, the top of the light would be either close or in contact with the plywood shelf.

What clearance do I need for IC and Non-IC cans?

I just bought some for an addition I am doing and the package states zero clearance.
I am sure they are all rated independently though, check the package of the one's you are thinking of using.
