Clearcoat Question !

Hey guys im still in the middle of prepping my garage floor. Then doing a 2 part epoxy ( behr......I know I know.......not the best stuff but its all that is really around in canada and I got a good deal )

anyways I have a single car garage, only 220-250 sqft. I got 2 of the bear kits to do 2 full coats. I plan on adding the chips on the second and final coat.


Depending on the results after it cures, I may want to clear.

Is this possible? can clear go on a week or so after this stuff dries? will it adhere proper? or does it need a slightly tacky surface?

also can I put ANY type of clear on it? this behr stuff is water based, if I somehow managed to find 100% solids clear or even the rustoleum premium 2 part clear.......could I use that?

some things you got to learn by trial and error. Peel is because the paint is still too thick(or the room to warm).......

Definitely good advice, but I have to comment: if you can afford a 100% solids clear coat, I don't know why you'd jeopardize it by putting it on top of any Behr coating. If I had a good 100% solids clear kit and two kits of Behr anything, I'd install the 100% solids directly on the concrete and sell the Behr on craigslist (or return it...)

The way your post reads, it sounds like you're trying to use the Behr kit for visual reasons; but, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and you definitely don't want that weak link to be the foundation/base coat. Obviously this is just opinion, but to me, putting something nice on top of a cheap base coat just sounds like a waste of money.

for budget reasons I cannot really afford to get into an expensive kit. I just want something that is better than nothing- since I got a good deal on the behr it should be fine.

my garage is more or less a second room- not much traffic in terms of cars in and out and doing actual "work". Probably just a second guys room to play darts listen to music and have a few drinks when company is over. I think behr should do the job fine ( im hoping )

I'm curious if you ever found a good answer to this? Even if you sealed a lesser base coat with a high quality 100% solids clear. Nothing (relative) should be getting down through the clear to mess with your cheaper base right?
