Cleary Building AC/Heat Project

Been awhile since I have been on here but my next project is underway so here goes. Heat/AC.
My 30x40x12 (not 14') main shop is getting Heat and AC put in over the next couple weeks. The insulation in this shop is the standard thin bubble wrap stuff. One 12x12 door is insulated (well for a door), Walk in door is fair, but the two windows are not so great. My shop was added to a couple years back. Actual floorpan is 43x40 now. The add on is non insulated but the original was was kept in place.
I'm worried the cooling won't be the greatest, but am confident the heat will be. Only going to run this unit on occasion and some weekends as needed.

This is somewhat of a trial. Can't afford to insulate it right at the moment, so I hope my AC guy is accurate on what he is installing. I will have options for insulation later to make it all come around if the system is lacking.

Goodman AC 5T, and Goodman Furnace 100000btu 96%. $8k installed with spiral ductwork, turnkey.

Thankfully I am fortunate enough to be able to make this happen. I'm not usually a "try" it guy but this time, I just gotta try I guess.

I will get my photo options situated and have a full report on the project.

Well, you do not have your location or region listed... That is pertinent information in sizing equipment.

I installed a 5 Ton split Heat Pump with 20kw electric heat in our 40x60x17 shop. Roughly as insulated as yours (1" or 2" fiberglass with foil on outside, white on inside). No windows. Insulated roll ups (foil bubble foil). Rigid ductwork, insulated.

It works AWESOME in the evenings when the Gulf South sun isn't beating directly on the roof. Used it this weekend. Hot, humid, sunny about 80* is all she would do. Evenings I can hit below 70*.

Heat works well in "MY Climate". 20kw is about 68k worth of heat. Your gas furnace is capable of up to 96k if all design parameters are met.

Still not knowing your region or location leaves a lot of unknowns. Some areas are sized for cooling, some for heating. $8k sounds fair. I had $5k electrical and HVAC parts in ours. Labor was yours truly.

Sorry, Dodge City KS. Overhead door faces the west. Concrete furnace in the afternoon/evenings. I followed your project. Outstanding. My insulation isn't much at all. Hoping to roll out ceiling with 3" at least this next winter to aid in cooling next summer.

Ceiling fans would help mix the air and push heat down from the ceiling.

Planning on installing 2 Fenceham 84" YG491BN units. (Home Depot) Helped install one with rheostats/direction change. Pretty solid units for the money. Awaiting confirmation the one I installed is still running without issue.

That price is considerably higher than what my buddy paid. If I recall it was like $140.
I have a couple Portable Coolers 36" to play with until I get a permanent set up.

Ceiling fans are a must for tall ceilings in the winter. Heat will rise and stratify. In the cooling season they help "blend" the conditioned air. I leave my 4, 60" Emerson HF1160 fans on LOW or MED 24/7.

Being in Kansas, I'd say that your AC is sized correctly for the space. The tall ceilings on our buildings, drafts and marginal insulation create challenges when climate control is desired.

It should have no issues maintaining 70's* if desired when cooling. 96,000 btu's of heat with ceiling fans should also have no issues keeping it comfortable in the winter.

I have a 40x60x14. I have 3 roll-up doors, not as well insulated as yours.
I'm in Texas, so we take more heat and humidity.
I paid about $5k to have 3-3.5" of open cell foam applied to my building. I'm steel frame - you're pole barn, so some difference there. Not sure you can spray foam directly on to that insulation, but if you can, start with the roof.

I am running 4 tons of AC (2 ductless systems, 2 x 24K Daikins). It was somewhat "experimental" to see if these would cover our heat load. I'm able to cool into the 70s with temps into the high 90s so-far. My costs, all in (DIY, no warranty) - About $2400. Note, I only use the "bottom floor" of my building so far, so not sure that my cooling would be OK for 2nd story.

Based on what I know about residential "new construction" HVAC installs, your price is reasonable and duct work will certainly be a better option if your shop is multi-room or in any way zoned.

I see you have propane, so you can do whatever you want in terms of heating..
