I acquired bits just like this one from an auction of one of my relative's belongings. He was a machinist. It measures about 3 inches long with a diameter of 14/16 to 1 inch. According to the logo on the bit, it was the Cleveland Twist Drill Company of Cleveland, Ohio.

I cannot find any information on them. Anyone have any insights or information on this bit? Thank you.

A 14/16 drill must be rare as a hen's tooth!

LOL! Sometimes I use mental notes or write notes on paper when fabricating that would be like that or 12.5/16ths or 6/8ths if it makes it easier to keep track of measurements. Sometimes I just skip over to metric. Half of 14.2cm is easier to find than 5 9/16" or some random length. It is faster to count mm on a ruler than figure out which little 16th or 32nd on a ruler is the one I need.

I would expect a USA Clevland bit to be high quality. I have heard of the brand but don't know anything about them.

Search this forum for the brand or do a google search on garage journal site for the brand. I don't remember the exact way to search only a single site, but it works well. Garage journal pops up a lot for these kind of searches anyway.

Is the bit in good shape? Is it a silver and demming with a reduced shank? Does is say HSS on it for high speed steel?

A pic would help.

Welcome to the garage!
