Hi All,

One of the minor challenges of applying a fleck-type floor that is not a full broadcast is getting the flecks disbursed evenly and without missing any spots or 'clumping' which can happen with novice installers (our instructions say to practice by laying out a clear plastic tarp and experiment in how they fall to the floor to get your technique right, and then use the tarp to gather them up for use). The flecks need to be applied while the epoxy layer is wet so at times customers feel rushed and don't apply the flecks as even as they would like.

One of our customers sent us in a photo of a home-built 'fleck shaker' he made out of a one gallon milk container! He did have spike shoes which we can supply at no charge (make sure to ask) to Garage Journal Members so all he did was walk around the floor and shake away! He simply cut off the top of the jug, made some appropriately sized holes in the bottom and off to the races!

Using this shaker virtually eliminated the fleck application problem. Kudos! Below are pics of the shaker and the final result which was our SPGX Medium Broadcast Polyurea Kit.

Lol, that's exactly what we were thinking! We have sold tens of thousands of kits and no one, including our Installation Division crews ever thought of this, and this is such a simple solution to a potential problem!

And...it doesn't have to be a milk jug, ice tea, lemonade, anything will work!

I didn't bother with them, was too much headache. Machine grey is normal in any shop I've been in.

Agree, most working shops don't use flecks, but a high percentage of residential garages and basements do use them.

When they remodeled the service area where I worked they went grey epoxy with multicolor flecks. It was a pain in the rear if something hit the floor. Is ever dropped a surface mounted chip it was gone. Was not impressed, grey would have been fine.

I think the chips have mystical powers. I have a full broadcast floor. I've dropped several items that have apparently been sucked into another dimension. I've spent hours on my hands and knees trying to find them. They are just friggin gone.

I used my wife to spread the flake while I rolled... we have clumps... I tried to fire her but she's still around...

We just used a Scotts seed spreader !!

That's what I expected to see from the thread title! The milk jug tip is a good 'un, though.

Agree the hand spreader can work, but for a one-time use the milk jug seemed like a good solution!

I'm going to make one of these milk jug shakers as an alternative to my hand broadcast spreader to use with spot treatment on my lawn!
