Put one of those department store battery powered clocks in the garage and will not keep time below freezing, would like a electric clock but have not seen one available for years so is there a clock that can work below freezing.

What type of clock are you talking about, analog quartz, digital....? I'd be more apt to blame the battery than the clock. What type of battery are you using?

Do you want just a clock or can the clock be part of something else, like a clock radio? I have also been to stores that sell rather large digital clocks that plug into the wall and some even hang on the wall.

All my battery clocks run through the cold weather until the batteries run down. We have a 24" atomic analog clock on the back outside wall of our tool shed, so we can see it when we're down below in the 'valley' while we're working.

I have several battery powered clocks in the garage, trailers and shop. They all work fine in the below zero temps here. I would agree with the others that the battery is the problem. I have lithium batteries in the outside keypads because I trust them more in cold weather. The clocks I just use whatever.

Sounds interesting, how did you do that?

I bought a cheapo movement to replace the cheapo movement that was in it. I don't remember where I got it, but here's an example and probably this is actually what I bought:

The cheap battery clock movements are basically all alike in shape. The hands are not. The hands you have may not fit a movement you buy, but you get new hands from clock parts.com

I have one, though it is an old Simplex-brand school clock; never had any issues with it, hot or cold.

I have a Standard Electric Time Company clock. I got if from one of the schools when they updated.

I love the look with the domed lense and the aluminum frame.

I got that same electric plug-in movement because my battery clock in cold temps (32F and below) would start losing time as soon as the battery got to about 90% or less. I tried lithium batteries and same result once the battery hits less than 90%. The plug-in movement has done fine.

Yeah I would think probably temp kills the battery, but also possibly the grease inside some of the cheap ones could harden or thicken and cause it to loose time.

If it's an attached garage, hang it on the wall shared with the house -- that wall stays a good bit warmer. Also, hanging it up high helps.
