Clopay Garage Door Decorative Trim - solutions?

Looking for some advice from like-minded individuals on how to best replace this warped trim. **I do not need to know what caused it nor how to avoid it **

Our 12 year old insulated Clopay garage doors (2 double doors and a single door) have glued on decorative trim pieces that have seen better days. Over the past year nearly all trim pieces have warped, some far enough where they hit the header and cracked. Re-gluing isn’t working well.

Have any of you ever ran into this and solved the problem? Looking for ideas.

The manufacturer does not have a solution to replace the trim and the installers have suggested I replace the doors (way too expensive and not worth it for a cosmetic issue). We got 11yrs out of the trim before issues and the doors are great so no need to replace all of if!

Is this door south facing with lots of sun?
Plastic and uv rays are a guarantee for what's going on with your door. Consider this (design) if you end up doing a full replacement.

It does and we had to use specific paint on the doors and design trim to help - getting 11yrs of no problems is not too bad. Replacement is definitely not happening as thats a complete waste of money.

Debating removal of all trim and painting the design. Perhaps there are other options people have taken.

I have a little plastic "ring" around the glass windows in my 3 doors that's sun beaten. The door company sent me out some replacements and informed me about paint with a UV rating. Still cracked within years.🫤

The problem is with the dark color of the trim. You should NEVER paint that extruded trim, or even the door a dark color. What happened to you will pretty much happen every time.

I had a similar problem with the plastic molding around the windows in my front door. Looked for a permanent fix but could not find anything. So I and my router table made new moldings from oak. It's been about 15 years and they still look like the day I put them on. (cranberry color)

Agreeing with everyone so far. The dark trim gets hotter sooner in the sun and expands and contract at a different rate than the underlying door material.
Suggestions: Remove the trim and paint the doors all one color. Paint the design directly on the doors. I'm not sure if this would look the way you want it.

Replace the moldings with wood or composite and mount the new moldings with screws from the inside of the door
Could slot the mounting holes to allow for expansion

Rip the trim off and repaint everything. Remember to scrub those door really well, fully dry and use the best house paint you can buy. My oldest ran into the same issue. Had a painting contractor come over, strip the trim off, clean and redo both his doors. Used a really expensive (I thought) Sherwin Williams house paint. Looked like they were brand new when done and after three years, in direct sun, they still look great.

Our 9' wide Clopay doors were not installed properly (12 years ago and by the PO before us) which caused them to start to sag in the middle, which then caused the outside metal layer of the door to start and tear. Inside metal is fine, but three of the five panels on all doors have creases and some tearing in them. Having them replaced next week (not cheap) by a Clopay Master Installer and double checked to make sure the proper door reinforcements were included this time.

Did he just paint the doors a solid color without any trim?

We are still exploring the options since we do like the two tone look on the doors. Need to photoshop different ideas.

Thankfully, our doors are in great condition. They were painted with very specific Sherwin-Williams paint that Clopay recommended.

I have those doors without the trim... facing FULL SOUTH on the Jersey Shore... 20 years old... still looks brand new.

The doors are awesome! Sounds like no trim is ideal way to go for the future (less work than cutting/installing new ones)
