Closing in and insulating a pole building

Hey guys, just wondering how y’all might go about closing this in. Specifically at the tops and bottoms. There’s already a channel running along the ceiling that the metal ceiling attaches to. It butts right up to the 6x6 posts.

My plan is to do 2x6 studded walls up flush with the 6x6’s. Then either do drywall or plywood, or both. 0f3b777a0f6a38ff7e17545466ca01dd.jpg

It sounds like you’ve got the right plan. 2x6 studs would work well and allow plenty of insulation room. It would also be really simple to use loose fill such as cellulose within the walls. You could probably save a few bucks using 2x4s but it would not look as nice as the flush finish of the larger studs.

I used 2x4's and framed the wall all the way up and behind the top beam. I also put insulation all the way up the wall too. I then finished the walls with 1/2" OSB. I'd post pictures but I don't have a site to host them on.

What I'm doing is "cut and cobble 2" XPS foam against the outside girts, sealing with canned spray foam. Then I'm filling the remaining cavity with unfaced R-13 insulation rolls. I will then run girts on the inside of the post.

So I guess your 2” foam is doing the same job that my “bubble wrap” is going to do?

I planned on just doing 16” centers with 2x6’s and using faced r-19

I have an upstairs attic in the garage 7ft tall 14 foot wide, 40 ft long. What are people doing for insulation up top?

Here is what I did to my Morton building. I followed all of their recommendations for finish out. There is about 16 inches of blown in insulation in the attic that I put in and the insulation in the walls was installed by Morton. Keeps it warm in the winter but it's a struggle to keep it cool in the hot Texas summer especially with the dark brown roof. That's what I've got the A/C for.

I was going to go with the pole building matting but my son, who knows more than me actually knew more than me when it came to this project and went with normal batting using horizontal 2X4s. We're going to be blowing in 12-13" of insulation in the ceiling.

Take a look at my build thread for some tips. I've never been sorry for the way that I did mine. I heat it with a 75,000 BTU propane furnace and it doesn't run all that much, even in that steady below zero stretch that we recently had.

I’m looking at a 75k BTU propane heater also. I have 1200 ft2 with 10’ ceilings. How is your propane usage for the year?

I do a lot of wood working so I’m tempted to get the model that has a sealed combustion chamber

With 2364 sq ft with 14' ceiling, around 400 gallons for a season. I have a low temp (35F) thermostat and that's where I set it during the week. Ambient temp inside stays at 42 and then on the weekend I turn it up to around 64 when active out there.
