I have to replace the flywheel in my JY road race Mustang (ChumpCar/LeMons). The last couple of times I did this the new one didn't come with dowel pins. Last time I bought new pins and was told that was the last they could get. To fulfill my need for more tools I thought I would buy the correct tool for pulling the pins. The holes aren't through drilled so I can't just use a punch from the back side. Anybody got a particular tool or supplier they would recommend?

Here is a drawing of a dowel puller I made many moons ago not the best drawing but you can make it to your needs.

Collet type pullers are best:

Great idea. Something like that would also work good for dowels in motorcycle heads, cyl's and blocks. Wonder if you could make different size sleeves for different size dowels and only need the one tool itself.

I cut flywheels all the time and only use the collet puller. Works like a charm. Stubburn pins will need heat. Just dont pinch yourself.

Is the dowel pin hole not drilled all the way through through the flywheel? A lot of the flywheels I remeber doing had a hole bored all the way through but was stepped to keep the dowel in place, on those I just used a punch.

No reason you couldn't make sleeves and drill the master hole oversize.
This is just a low cost alternative to the collet type pullers. Mainly for occasional use.
