No answer to the question as to why they're still taking people's money for wrenches that they don't really have.

That's the biggest question here.

I finally did the chat, it's going to the backend to get me a solid shipping date from the supplier. Lol.

Thought this may be helpful to some. Maybe not. This is my interaction with the Sears Parts Direct customer service chat through their website.

Chat transcript

Downey (18:09:31 GMT) : Hi Benjamin!
Downey (18:09:38 GMT) : How are you doing today?
Benjamin (18:10:02 GMT) : I am well. How are you?
Downey (18:10:19 GMT) : I am doing good. Thank you.
Downey (18:10:25 GMT) : It's nice you have you on this chat. How may I help you?
Benjamin (18:10:49 GMT) : You're welcome. I have an issue with an order I had placed back in December.
Benjamin (18:11:11 GMT) : The order number is XXXXXXXX, and it was placed on XXXXXXXX, 2017.
Downey (18:11:33 GMT) : Let me check the order status and provide the details.
Benjamin (18:12:50 GMT) : I had used this same chat feature to talk to one of your associates about the order. I don't know if you are able to see that. I had inquired about the fact that it had been more than a month since the order was placed, and even that long since the order status had been updated.
Downey (18:16:32 GMT) : I have checked and located the order. I see that the part is no longer available so we have issued the complete refund for this order on XXXXXXXX/2018.
Benjamin (18:17:42 GMT) : I see that, and does it state that I in no way asked for the order to be canceled? Is it clear that it was completely on behalf of Sears Parts Direct that the order was canceled?
Downey (18:19:02 GMT) : Benjamin, I understand your concern regarding this issue. The order was cancelled automatically since the part is no longer available from the manufacturer end.
Benjamin (18:19:43 GMT) : So the part number 48989SP is no longer availlable, and cannot be ordered?
Downey (18:22:38 GMT) : The part still shows as available. Currently we are modifying our website, and this was left un-noticed and now that you have bought this to us we will quickly send this to our relevant department and get this fixed.

However, you can check for this part at Sears.com . They might have this part available.
Downey (18:23:00 GMT) : You can chat to one of the Sears associate for the availability.
Benjamin (18:23:31 GMT) : Thank you for updating the website, I would hate for other patrons of your site to be misled into a month of waiting on a product that may never arrive.
Benjamin (18:27:00 GMT) : Since Sears Parts Direct offered me, and countless others, a product that they did not have, nor could they get for customers, they chose to cancel the orders. When I purchased, in good faith, with my money, an item Sears Parts Direct could did not have, and could not get, I was "given" $20 worth, or 20,000 Shop Your Way rewards points. Since Sears Parts Direct chose to cancel my order, they also saw fit to take back these points, which I had used on other Sears products, with the belief that my order, for which Sears Parts Direct was still holding my money, would be fulfilled.
Benjamin (18:29:34 GMT) : Now, my account in reading -19,841 points. That is negative 19,841 points. I am being penalized for Sears Parts Direct's, some would say fraudulent, error. I would simply ask you, or your manager, to zero out my points balance, or award me 19,841 points.
Downey (18:31:16 GMT) : Benjamin, I certainly understand your concern regarding the points issue. Not to worry! since you are valued member we will go ahead and add $20.00 worth of points to your Rewards account to compensate the error made on your order.
Downey (18:31:22 GMT) : May I have your email address?
Benjamin (18:31:45 GMT) : The email is [email protected]
Downey (18:32:01 GMT) : Thank you.
Downey (18:32:07 GMT) : Please allow me 2-3 minutes.
Benjamin (18:33:20 GMT) : That would be fine.
Downey (18:34:58 GMT) : Is your shipping address: *** X. XXXX St.?
Benjamin (18:35:11 GMT) : That is correct.
Downey (18:35:55 GMT) : Benjamin, I have added $20.00 worth of points to your Rewards account: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
Benjamin (18:36:03 GMT) : Thank you.
Downey (18:36:06 GMT) :
Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect and please let us know if we can be of any additional assistance.
Good Bye and Take Care!

You were lucky. I asked for same thing and didn't get the points set back to zero. That was last straw for me and I won't buy from Sears again.

I am actually amused by the fact that they are still sitting on my money and have made no attempts to contact me or to refund my purchase. My order was placed on December 15, 2017. We all know that I will never receive the wrenches, so how long will they continue to do nothing on their end if I remain silent on my end?

I just called them about mine ordered 12/14 last week. They kept telling me it was going to ship, I called them on that. They said a supervisor would contact me. 3-4 days later, Supervisor leaves me a message saying discontinued. They would refund. Still haven't seen that money yet. Most likely will be another call.

Not sure why anyone is still waiting to cancel to be honest.

Is Sears taking your order and your money when you order them? They may be playing the float game. Quick to grab your money, slow to return it until and upon cancellation. They are having problems paying their bills (insufficient cash flow and huge reduction in available credit).

Yup, pretty unbelievable that the website still shows in stock and they are still taking money for this especially after at least 10 of us have notified them of the issue. Circling the drain. My guess is they won't be in business by the EOY.

It's worth noting merchants aren't meant to charge credit cards until an item ships. It's a violation of the credit card issuer's terms and conditions.

Is seven to ten days normal for a refund?

Why the wait?

That is on the longer side, but most retailers do seem to take longer to process a refund than a payment. Not sure what if anything is the real reason for that anymore, other than "because we can".

I had my refund in two or three days. I ended up getting some large metric wrenches from Cripe which were made by the same company, probably in the same factory, for about $1 more per wrench. I'll post again when they arrive.

I would think the purchaser has at least as much responsibility in this situation as the seller.

Maybe they have asked all the chat agents to help unload the new container from China filled with "Industrial" wrenches.

Or they're all out hunting through the warehouse to personally find the wrenches they were told were hiding in there somewhere.

Well first let me say I apologize for starting this thread just as the wrenches were sold out.

So here's my Cripe Distributing alternative to buying large Danaher/Apex wrenches. With a 10% coupon code and a (automatic) $14 reduction on shipping, these cost me exactly as much as the Craftsman Industrial set would have, $75. They are not the same sizes but I bought 20-32mm skipping 23, 28, and 31mm. No imperial sizes. You can see a 23mm in the pictures and that's one I already had, which motivated me to buy the rest.

Some are Satin finish which is fine. The second pic is the 32mm and 22mm for comparison.

10 Large Metric American-made Wrenches for $75. But act quickly! Some of these sizes have less than 20 units left. The box they came was pretty beat-up, like what the CM guys were saying.

I just spent 15 minutes on Cripe's website. Loaded up my cart with about $85 in Made in US tools.

It's gonna cost me about $50 in shipping.

Ha. I doubt it....

I bought mine on Friday and on Monday got a shipping refund for $14.

I would have paid the full price anyway but what an honest company!

"Wait, we don't want to take all the money we charged you!"

I believe there is some way you can also contact them with your cart contents and your zip code, and they can tell you the shipping cost (which should be less than what the cart says).

Did you try clicking the 'offline?' It said offline for me but when I clicked it, it still popped up.

File a complaint with the FTC.
File a complaint with the CC company.
Call a lawyer to start a class action suit.
Contact a bunch of national media to bring it into the spotlight.

These are all much more constructive tasks you can do.

yes, if you call in your order you can pay combined shipping the first time. also, you can check their ebay store. sometimes the ebay store lists items not on the website, and vice versa.

You know, it was bad enough getting sucked into this experience (I ordered twice, eventually cancelled, and received my payment back). But it's even more annoying that I'm now getting spam from Sears PartsDirect in addition to all the advertising emails from Sears.

I know, time to try out the unsubscribe link.

I often skip that step and go directly to creating a new rule for my email that filters it as junk. Seems more reliable.

I had to get my credit card company involved today...

Even though the order status now shows "No longer available, you will be refunded.", Sears is not refunding my money. Multiple chat sessions and phone calls with Sears employees over the past month have only yielded promises of return phone calls that are never made and emails that are never sent. Sadly I cannot say that I am surprised by any of this.

Renchi, same thing happened to me. Many conversations (no less then 5), finally got refund. Next step was to get credit card company involved as Sears were not refunding shipping on a 2 item order. Good luck, mine is in dispute.
