I just got back from Sears and thought I would share what appears to be one heck of a deal - at my local store anyway.

They have five plain brown boxes marked with P/N 15383, which is their 95 piece easy-to-read 6 point impact socket set. The boxes are marked as discontinued and damaged. The sales clerk said that they had some boxes open up on the truck and they were able to make up a few sets with the pieces that they were able to find. Whatever. He said that most boxes were only short a socket or two, but that you take a chance when you buy one of the boxes.

Even if the set was missing a few sockets, man, what a cheap way to build up a very nice set of impact sockets. I already own a 12 piece deep set that I bought for half price at one of the Craftsman Clubs deals, so since it is included in the 95 piece set, maybe I could sell it & recoup some of my $130 outlay.

Dang, I hate going into Sears. Spent most of today's overtime when I bought another Professional Wall Cabinet for $100. That is about as cheap as I have seen them - Craftsman Club or not. So I am heading back to pickup the cabinet with my truck. Think I'll see if I can get some semi-clueless Saturday night sales clerk to open one of those damaged socket sets for me. Might be spending tomorrow's O/T also.

Sounds like a weird story. If it's discontinued why would they be getting in a bunch of boxes at once? I checked the inventory of the stores near me and it's out of stock every where.

I did pick up most of this set I think on ebay last year from a liquidation vendor. It said it was for 15 sockets but I could count at least 50 in the picture. I got a great deal on it. Forget which ones it was missing but I haven't missed em yet.

Such a deal I just got!!! All 95 pieces were in the beat up brown box.

ALL 95 PIECES!!!

With sales tax that works out to $1.45 a socket/extension/...

When I went back 4 of the 5 boxes were off the shelf - sold I assume. So I open the remaining box and laid out the parts. All there. Nothing missing and no damage. I called a long time sales clerk over and asked him what the deal was and he told me that the set is a catalog/internet purchase item only. Not a store stocking item. So when they received the sets they were marked way, way down and put on the clearance item shelf. My lucky day. This is the first time I have been in the tool section of Sears this year and I definitely picked the right day.

As we were talking another sales clerk brought out 3 more sets and stocked them on the clearance shelf. Wish I had a few more bucks of disposable income right now, but not today. Hell, I just spent close to $270 there since I got off work at 3:30. :lol_hitti

Anyway, if there are any central Iowa members checking out this thread, head to the Sears at Merle Hay Mall for one hell of a deal. But act quickly.
