Stupid sears, I keep getting surprise points where I have $5 off a $75 purchase. Worthless on the cool small items.

Is the black metal pry bar part and the silver metal end cap all same piece of metal?

Or is the cap just attached to the plastic handle part?

I've hit my non professional pry bars a lot with hammers and no damage but I always worry. I'd get a set of these if I knew it all all one piece metal throughout.

They are the same as the Mayhew Bars, so the black square stock goes all the way to the silver metal striking cap. They are striking prybars.

But is the silver cap welded or glued to the black bar or is it the same metal?

I just bought the 5 piece set from summit a couple of weeks ago using the $85 for $100 gift card deal... could've racked up more SYWR points and used some to knock the price down with sears!

Chat them and they will do it. I did.

There is an error in the system.
It takes ten minutes for them to look it up but it works.

The three piece set, then add the other two sizes individually. Total is 80.07 then use the 15.00 off.

You have to chat or call them to make the 15.00 work. There is an error in their system not allowong it to work online.

I have been waiting to get these prybars at a great price, but Sears doesn't offer store pickup for me. It's over $14 shipping for a $30 order, so I guess it's back to waiting again.

I'm surprised they lasted that long... in the previous few times they were being sold, they were gone within minutes!

So, when I found this thread last week, the 10" bars were out of stock, but I was able to order a couple of the 31" bars to go with my (2) 3pc sets.

The following day, the 10" bars were listed in stock again, so I ordered them.

My order for the 31" bars went through, they were delivered yesterday.

My order for the 10" bars was cancelled. Summit Racing showed the 10" bars in stock, however, for a higher price.

Said screw it, ordered (2) 10" bars from Summit. They showed up today.

Here's the fun bit:

They were both shipped from the same location - Summit doesn't stock these, they're drop-shipped by the Sears warehouse.

Dunno why they go out of stock on the Sears website, yet they have them in stock to ship them for Summit.

Oh well - at least I finally filled out my pry bar set.

i am not kythri, but i also have two sets of regular craftsman pry bars that i use all the time. I originally bought two sets, because they were so cheap i figured i would buy a spare set for a friend in need or to keep just in case. I ended up finding situations where i was wanting two of the same length bars at the same time so i decided to add the second set in with my regular use tools.

You can place one on each side of an object and pry with more of an even force instead of the object wanting to pivot or tweak if only prying from one side. Some things can only be safely separated by prying straight out for a certain distance. It is also nice to be able to pry something from two different points just to divide the stress on the object out a bit to minimize the chance of cracking or damaging something. I also use two for things like separating screwdriver handles from their shafts. Having both pry bars the same length makes it much easier to ensure you are applying equal force to both bars.

Ding!

Honestly, pretty much exactly that - they were cheap enough, and they've come in handy various times (either by myself, or with others).

Sears has the 3pc set on sale for 19 right now. Great deal.

The Craftsman professional pry bar set being discussed in this thread is still $49.99 - you are thinking of the standard Craftsman pry bar set that is $18.99. The pro set has black/red handles with metal striking caps and is made by Mayhew while the regular Craftsman set has solid red handles and is made by Wilde.

What is the best price Sears has had on the 3 piece set? Sometime I want to get the 3 piece but want it at a good price when I do. Thx- Paul

Last year (May 2013) the 3 piece pro set went on sale for $24.99 but I missed that and haven't see it go down since then.
