cman rp teardrop ratchet rebuild/makeover?

Does craftsman make an upgraded rebuild kit to make these ratchets smoother with a higher tooth count? Tired of having to get a fastener finger tight just to get the mechanism to ratchet back so I can turn the damn bolt.

The only way to fix a Craftsman ratchet is to buy a better ratchet. Snap-On Dual 80s are my favorite.

Those are very shoddy ratchets.... i would recommend investing ur time and money in another type of ratchet, personally

It's never going to be a great ratchet, but spring clipping and coating the internals with a good grease will do wonders.

Sell your Cman stuff already and buy something else. If Cman tools are that much of a disappointment, get rid of them so you aren't constantly wasting your energy on them.

Look into the deal on the 60 tooth thin profile 3 piece craftsman ratchet sets. Been on hot deal index all week. Sorry dont have a link. Maybe someone can help. That would probably solve your problem at an economical price.

or better yet, go down to HFT and buy the 72 teeth composite ratchets for $8 a piece.

I'm sorry my tools bother you that much. I've had these ratchets for twenty years and haven't had any real problem with them. They've served their purpose but aren't that smooth. I thought this was a forum where people enjoy helping each other tweek their stuff and share other wisdom they've learned over the years.

but there are a few.................well, you know the type. If it ain't what they got, it ain't worth havin. Like you, i still have Craftsman tools i've been using for 25 years, and for the money i think they are just fine. I frequent around 5-6 forums concerning different interests, and there are keyboard cowboys and cowboyettes on every single one of them. I've learned to just ignore them. Don't let a few "holier than thou" ruin your experience here. It's really a great forum.

Your tools don't bother me. Matter of fact I'm a Craftsman user.

It is a forum for folks to help each other.

It's also a dumping ground and complaint central for tool brands. There's an anti-Craftsman bandwagon that rolls around very often. Between this post and your other about the OE of the RP wrenches they make you sound like you're on that wagon. I figured it would help you to suggest dumping the tools your not happy with and get ones that work better for you.

As a professional mechanic who hold wrenches all day long, I would say the only problem I ever encountered with the earlier style Craftsman hand tools is the sharp edges or non-ergonomic design, after using for hours on end they hurt my hands.

But I am a sissy.

Since I began wrenching (mid 70's) Craftsman has done redesigns on the tools where they may not have the same hard corners, but I spent all my money of Snap-On tools so I dont have any input on how the new tools feel.

The gearing is most likely worn, I really would just go to sears with it and exchange it under warranty.
