Hoping someone could tell me what this is? It was among some equipment I previewed today for an upcoming auction. Looks to be some sort of cnc type of drill press? Has a drill attachment with what looks like an ordinary drill bit. Would it be used to only drill precisely placed holes? Wood or steel? Could it be used to cut shapes too? Any idea on value?

looks like a cnc router with a frame made of 80/20 aluminum extrusions

Copy that, tis exactly that. If you're not interested in it, I sure would be for a plasma table depending upon location....just hinting

That is an X-Y positioning table, custom made for a specific job. Without more information guessing what it was used for is just that, a guess. I It could have had a conveyor running through it that brought in a part and then carried it out after drilling it. Not of great value as a machine, maybe a couple hundred in salvage value. That strut will make a great workbench.

Those liner bearings are not going to play nice with the grit from a cutting process.

If it has motors, linear slides, a controller, and can move in any XYZ direction, you should be able to swap the drill press part for a woodworking router or spindle motor to convert it to a CNC router.

If I could get that for a couple hundred bucks I'd buy that in a heart beat. Looks like hardened v rail is attached to the 8020. The gear racks are fairly versatile. The igus chain isn't cheap. The steppers are always useful for something. 8020 is great stuff. Be curious to see how they designed the carriages. But then again I'm someone who is into this stuff and has in the past built cnc routers so parts like this look really useful to me.

So if I can nab this thing for not much $ would one of you guys be interested? I'd like to save it from the scrappers but I don't have much room. I'm sure shipping would be pretty hefty.

I'd be interested in it. I've been looking for a similar design for my CNC router project. It will need quite a bit of work as it sits, but if the price is right;)

Let me know!
