There isn't a basement journal forum, so I'm posting here.
We are in the process of finishing parts of our walkout basement apartment floor (kitchen, living, dining, bedroom, toy garage) in our 3 year old house. There is about 70 foot of sand beneath it on top of a hill, so no water issues. Humidity never gets very high. Plastic and foam under the heated slab. I have a small garage in it which is used for parking a pair of ATVs, no wrenching. The floor is power troweled. We are in Michigan.
What products do you suggest given my statements below? I'd like to keep the cost under $1.75 square foot.
-- Edging around all the walls in 4 rooms will cause a serious hit on the pot life, which probably rules out 100% solid epoxy. I guess we could make lots of batches.
-- Need a product that won't cause us to grow a 3rd eye. It will be applied in a living space.
-- Desirable that the product not stink during installation, even though we could work around that. Respirators and ventilation.
-- Would prefer to etch vs grind.
-- Floor will only see foot traffic and dragging of furniture. So the floor doesn't have to be as strong as a garage floor.
-- No worry about hot tires. ATV tires don't get that hot.
-- Wife wants flakes (or something similar) to break up the floor to hide dirt.
-- Wife doesn't want tile.
-- Floor is clean and flat, other than a few spots in the kitchen.
Thanks, Todd
