What to use to put a protective coating to keep rust from doing damage to some bare replacement sheet metal panels.
I need to preserve for future needs, and don't want them to become worthless while waiting. High humidity can cause problems.

I know priming and painting with a rattle can is doable. Anything else a good product for protection?

I also have 2 complete quarter panels to do as well

If you have a spray gun, use an epoxy primer/sealer like DP-90. then you don't have to topcoat as the DP-90 isn't like rattle can primer or primer/surfacer, it will protect the metal underneath.

Had a frame sand blazed at American sandblast in RI sorry not so subtle plug for great company. Any hoot they sprayed what I believe was zinc phosphate type stuff on the bare metal which kept everything great till final paint prep. Used etch primer over it some 5 years later no issues. I believe you can ithe same stuff from Eastwood.

I second the DP-90 type product. I shoot the Omni AU MP172 primer. Thats the black, they also make MP170 (grey) and MP171 (white). Just depends what you topcoat color will be. Keith

does that seal like DP-90 though? If it does I might make that my new go-to.

For non mission critical stuff I usually use rattle can cold galvanizing compound, but I don't know what kind of base that makes for a real paint job later. I've only used it on e.g. spring plates, suspension bits, stuff like that - that gets a coat of semi-gloss Krylon later.
