Coating vs tiles

How/why did you choose one over the other? I was thinking of doing a coat, but tiles might be the easier way to go (just on prep work).

I went with interlocking tile in my garage and am very happy with my choice. However if you're garage sees heavy use (lots of working on cars, cutting, welding, etc) I would advise against it. In my case the concrete was in really bad shape and it would require a ton of prep work. I also didnt have a place to store all my stuff for 24+ hours while I waited for everything to cure/dry. I thought of renting a pod but ultimately ended up going with tile.

Compared to epoxy, one of the main pros of tiled garage floors are the fact that they are much easier to install than epoxy, how ever epoxy looks really nice. Also, it is easy to customize – add color for designs, custom hues, and unique looking designs. Flake is an additional way to spice up the floor.

I used RaceDeck Free Flow in my 500 sf garage. Garage use is important to consider as stated above. Ease of prep and installation along with choice of colors and patterns. If you look at this flooring forum many of posts relate to coatings and their issues. Peeling, blisters, toxic odors, drying times that went haywire. I chose the Free Flow to allow the rain, snow, slush, ice and whatever else her daily driver drags in to melt and drain out. That may not be as much an issue for you being in AL but it allows me to place my 1969 Mach 1 Mustang in the center of the garage for a wash. This lets me detail the car in the shade of the garage instead of outside in the sun. No regrets. Good luck. CJDave.

So far mainly just storage more than anything. Cleaning it out now so I can actually work on vehicles in there. No wood work (I move out to the driveway for that). No welding (maybe in the distant future, but could also be done in the driveway). So more "mechanic" type work than fab.

I'd say good condition. No stains. Mainly just dirty and some paint (wall paint).

Decently handy.

Prep work......this is where I don't know if I want to do this part truthfully. Maybe once I get it cleaned out it'll seem a bit more manageable and I'd lean that way. It also appeals a bit to me that if I go tiles I can change it as wanted and if I move, they can come with me. Also, if a tile gets messed up to the point it bothers me, pop it out and pop a new one in.

I also live in the Southeast, so hot and humid climate if that makes a difference. I also don't use this particular garage for parking daily cars. It's detached so no wet vehicles going in and out all the time.

It comes down to preference. The nice thing about tile is you can always replace a single tile and there is little if any prep work. With a coating, done properly, it is so easy to keep it clean.
