I was wondering if anyone on here knew anything about wheel balancers and could help me out. I just picked up a used Coats 1001 Direct drive wheel balancer. After turning it on, I noticed that the cooling fan motor does not spin but you can hear it buzzing like it wants to work but it doesn't. There are two wires running from the cooling fan motor to the transformer which I measured the two terminals and it has 110 Volts. Is it a bad motor or is there something else that should cause it to spin? I would think the cooling fan should spin as soon as I turn the machine on since it has power to it but it doesn't spin.

Thank you!
Beni

If the motor hums, try giving the fan blade a spin, it could be obstructed or the bearings are gummed up. there is very little that can go wrong with these c-frame inducti9on motors. They re easily stalled by gummed up bearings, as they have very little starting torque. A bit of penetrating oil on the bearings in order to clean them, followed by a light motor oil usually does the trick.

Agreed. Just about every window/box/pedestal fan uses those motors and they gum up from dirt and dried oil every so often.

Hello
I have the same problem as you. I think in my case the problem is the transformer. Would you mind to send attach a picture of the printed label of your transformer please? So I could know the output voltage to find a replacement for it. Thanks a lot. I would appreciate your help.
