Hello everyone,
Just purchased a coats 4040a center post tire changer.

Regarding hooking up to my compressor, when it takes in air in the surge tank, the gauge on the side of the tire machine keeps going into the red. I was unsure if this will blow something on the machine (surge tank, hose, etc) so I stopped .

Am I missing anything to stop the air from overfilling? Rather not have an explosion on my hands.

Thanks

I have a 4040A and the only gauge is for when your filling a tire.

So the right pedal is depressed for mounting/dismounting, and breaking the bead.

The left pedal partially depressed allows air to come out the hose to fill the tire via the valve stem. When filling a tire, the gauge will spike to the red as it sees supply pressure. When you remove your foot, the gauge will show what is in the tire. Depressing the left pedal all the way will send air out the tubing around the bottom of the tire to help the bead seat.

I would think something is off in the pneumatic circuit. The first thing to check is to ensure the left pedal isn’t stuck down.

Hi,

So I got a better look at this and found the "buttons" behind the left pedal are frozen. Sprayed some penetrating oil on them, but still won't budge .

Are thethere hard to change? Any special precautions?

Thank you in advance

The sheet metal can be removed by removing a few screws. Been a while since I was in mine but should just be a matter of remove and replace.
