When I was working on my multi speed input, I set each step to a percentage that sort of matched that step. I set step 1 to 10%, 2 to 20%, 3 to 30%, etc. Wheni stepped on the pedal and the display showed 30%, I changed the value in step 3 to my desired high speed percentage.

Oh, I read it as the machine didn't work with the diodes installed. The continuity test seems like they are working, though?
I suspect the diodes should have worked, but there is so little power going through the control wires that perhaps they had too much resistance.

He did post as long as he jumpered S1, S2 one speed worked and S2,S3 the other speed worked with the other control wires disconnected. so it is a control wiring issue. That is why I recommended going wit the DPDT micro switches.

Good going! I thought the diodes might work but wasn't sure as I had never tried it. I did mention that you might need to flip the diodes from end to end.

I've been following this thread, good to know you got it working. 30 years ago that would have been a lot of trips to the library to get the right answer if at all.
