Coax cable type and crimping question

I broke a cheap coax cable from a product with poor customer support so I look to you guys.

The cable end broke off and I've gotten to the point where I know it's not an rj6 but that's about it. For speed I'd like to fix the end myself but I don't see this type of repair being needed often so I'm not looking for a tool investment.

What do I have?
Any quick fixes?

I have never seen an end like that. Most RG6 ends are female. You seem to have a male RG6 end there. I suppose those are available, however i have never seen one. If you need to go male on an RG6 end, use a barrel. It's male on each side. They are technically called f type or f splice adaptors.
Cheap coax strippers and crimpers/compression tools will give you a cheap, ****** end. If you don't want to buy the tools to do it right, go from what you have in your hand, to a short coax whip, back to a barrel, or what ever fitting you need.

It would help to see what it goes to, and what broke. The whole picture?

RG6 and RG59 are mechanically interchangeable....

Yes, the data transmitted from rg6 to rg59 and back to rg6 is ok, but coax ends for rg59 are sized for the OD of the rg59 coax. Coax ends for the rg6 are sized for the OD of rg6.

I think thats what you are saying, i just wanted to clarify.

Correct....I guess I should have said "Same size threads"

I assume the other end is a normal F connector with female threads. Just buy an RG6 cable of the appropriate length and screw a bullet into one end and you will have a male. A bullet is just a little male to male adapter, found almost anywhere. RG6 has better performance than RG59 and can always be substituted. It has largely replaced RG59. Wall plates have a bullet as the pass through. This way you need no tools except a pliers or wrench to tighten the connector.

It looks like reverse *** SMA
Sma cunnectors look like F connectors but they are not the same size. Sma is for 50 ohm and RG59 or RG6 uses F connectors. THE OP said, later in the thread that his cable is RG 59 so the Commector is an F. They are very close in size and hard to tell apart from a picture. The application usually tells the tale. A monitor is going to be an F connector.

The only F Connector for either RG59 or RG6 I will use are Snap-N-Seal. The brand has been traded between several companies in the past 5-10 years, but I believe they have kept the quality.

Personally, I like the IT1000 tool.

I agree with most of that. I looks like reverse *** SMA. RG58 is 50 ohm.

First he said it was RG 59 then it was RG 58. When he decides what he has it will be clear. RG58 50 ohms SMA and RG 59 75 ohms F connector. I actually saw a short cable like the OP needs on ebay with a male and a female end. That is if he has RG58. If it is RG 59 there are plenty of short cables and male to male adapters on the HD web site. If they are not in the store HD will ship anything free to store.

I think the OP can get everything he needs at HD

But looking at the additional picture, I wonder if the OP could do what he need using an off the shelf pre-made RG6 cable and a female to female splice?

Look at post #12. He is showing that an rg6 cable is way too big.

those should be easy to replace. you can order a good quality replacement right off amazon. that is where I got mine. there are also adapters to go from RP to regular SMA, you may need to order a few of those in different configurations. those connectors are common for portable radios and wifi extenders. when I buy the adapters, I usually buy them buy the half dozen--since they are so cheap and people keep needing them when I make antenna's or sell some equipment...

use the chart I attached to verify which ends you need:

RP-SMA coneector
Best to just buy another assembled cable off ebay etc. It's not easy to prep the cable for sma. It would be about 100 USD for the crimp tool. It takes an experienced assembler about 15 to 30 minutes per end.

I think you found the right one. According to the post with all the sma cable types and the original OP picture, he has sma rp which I assume stands for reverse polarity. The one on ebay nails it and it is really cheap.
