Code Question?

I Just got done installing an addition for an industrial facility and in this addition are 4-40hp material moving pumps for granular material. Went to call for an inspection and the inspector came out looked around for a while and said. "are these pumps listed" . The actual motor was NRTL listed and the Pressure switch was NRTL listed, The controller was NRTL listed. and so forth. Apparently this doesn't count? The motor and pump assembly must NRTL listed as a pumping unit and apparently this electrical not a mechanical problem. Could someone shed some light on this for me. I am familiar with the code and i understand that my equipment must be NRTL listed but the motor is and so is everything else my electrical connections are hooked to. Any help would be appreciated.

Were the pump and motor provided as an assembly from a single company, or was the pump bought from one place and the motor from another? If the pump/motor was supplied from a single source I would think they would be listed with UL or CSA or similar. On the other hand if the two parts were bought from separate sources and assembled on site they wouldn't be listed as an assembly.

I have run into situations where a piece of equipment was sourced from Europe and it didn't have UL listing, usually because getting a UL listing is a lot of work and costs a lot of money, but in those cases the equipment usually at least had a CSA listing.

yes it is listed under CEL or something like that but of course it is worthless listing. The pumps came as one unit for NJ or MD. Called the supplier and laughed and said "where are you?" and "who the hell cares about that where you are". So the conclusion out of all this is. If it is a pre-assembled unit no field assembled unit it is required to NRTL listed.

Below is a list from Wikipedia of OHSA recognized NRTLs, I haven't seen CEL. I don't know about South Dakota, but Minnesota can be real picky about requiring everything to be UL approved.

Yea city inspectors are really picky with this item. The listing i looked today is CE or the European Commission. I just want to get some clarification on the issue.

I understand that the CE cert. is not recognized as a NRTL.
What specific standard is the inspector looking for? FM, UL, ASTM, ANSI, ETC.?
