Does anyone make any such thing? My searches came up empty...

I am starting to think that my issues with my HF code reader and my wife's Buick are due to the fact that my HF code reader is not really up to the task... apparently my wife's car uses the LAN protocol. Not familiar with this. Anyone know of a code reader that will support OBDII, CAN and LAN????

First of all ... are you even reading the first thread you started? Whatever code reader you used got the code retrieved; what's the problem? When and if you ever do get a real code reader, get an Innova 3100.

He needs to know the difference between a code reader and a scanner. If he wants to run a test by cycling the Purge Control Valve, (for example) he's gonna need a GM Tech II scanner.

I'll tell you what I'd do Edward (and have done it) is find a GM tech that does work on the side and pay him to troubleshoot the evap system. He'll tell you what's at fault and you make the necessary repairs yourself. There's only certain types of scanners that can interface with GM PCM's and the tech can bring the shop's Tech II home for one night to test out your car.

Yeah, I did. But just because the code reader worked doen't mean that it didn't cause other problems in the process...

That being said, I finally have a laptop and am thinking of doing away with all code readers/scanner and using an Autotap type system on my MacBook, if such a thing even exists.

:wtf: Where the HELL did you get this????

I don't need to run the test for teh Purge Control valve. That's a whole other issue (that has since been resolved).

****, if I wanted to do that, I would have done it already! I have someone taht lives less than a mile from me who could technically help me out at a cost $$$.

The whole point of this is for me to try an learn this for myself and see what's out there. This isn't rocket science, it's just something that I, personally, do not deal with on a daily basis.

There apparently is some confusion out there among teh different threads I started. They all have to do with the same issue, but cover different aspects of it. I suggest you re-read what I posted and then make appropriate comments.

AFAIK; there are not any "native" Mac OS X based apps for automotive diagnosis. I think Boot Camp would be easy way to go to run windows or you could use a program to run Windows inside of Mac OS X. Boot Camp in particular, has the highest possibility of working with a windows app and the hardware (typically a OBD II type connector through a USB adapter cord) because you are truly running a "pc" at that point with the hardware being fully operational as opposed to software emulation inside Mac OS X.
Here are a couple of links for what is available at the moment:
