Re: My 24x24 Garage

I started on my spare wheel/tire rack

this rack should be able to hold 2 full sets of wheel and tires

the main beam mounted to 7 studs using some lag bolts

IMG_2822.jpg

added 4 frame pieces using joist hangers and screws. I also added 3 inch screws to the face of the frame into each piece, I'm going to pull it back down tomorrow to add screws to back side and make this thing super strong, and tape and mud the wall.

IMG_2823.jpg

IMG_2824.jpg

after this just need to add some eye bolts and cabling for support and then throw the wheels and tires up there

Great Tire Idea, as I tall person, I would probably flip the eyes to the inside of the frame for a cleaner look and less of a head hazard.

not a bad idea, except for the bolt ends which I guess could be chopped and ground down, course I'm 6'3 and no issues for me.

Lookin' good! Can't believe you got all of those sheets of drywall up yourself. Myself, BIL and his son are having a bear putting up a ceiling right now. Good idea re-using the countertops. Are you going to build a shelf below the countertop or rolling tool box under there? Nice wheels by the way....

Well my dad did help me quite a bit when he could. The drywall hoist was a life saver. For the walls, I would trim the drywall at the bottom first, put in place, and then kind of slide it up a bit, enough to get some cardboard spacers under it. Then I would use a prybar and use my foot to slide it up against the ceiling and start a few screws to hold it. Then remove the prybar and spacers and start screwing it.

I can take a couple pics to explain the process better if you like.

Yeah that counter top came out of my parents kitchen when they remodeled. Luckily my dad kept the sink cutout and I was able to put it back in, though I need to fill the gaps with some filler.

I will probably build a shelf eventually, once I get rid of the smaller motor that you can see in the pic. I was originally going to use it for a motor swap in a previous project vehicle but have since sold the car and have no need for that engine anymore.

I actually went ahead and stuffed a bunch of things under there for now, the small motor, a set of 6.2 diesel heads, my shop vac, and some other various parts to get them out of the way for the moment

Ohio cold may kill them once a year, but down here in paradise, whatever you put in brown paper grocery bags here will soon be filled with cockroach poop...

lmao, never had any cockroaches in my garage, course most of those bags are filled with fire works lol (I pray my garage never catches fire, with those fireworks in there.)

Which reminds me, I really need to go get a fire extinguisher.

Sneak peak at some reclaimed fencing planks for a project I'm hoping to start by next weekend, though not exactly for the garage itself.

I really like your garage layout and car port on your property. Very nicely thought out when it was built. Great job on the project, keep it up!

Re: My 24x24 Garage

Yeah yeah, been awhile, work has kept me away and been a bit busy with family.

So to go with the fencing pic

I'm going to be putting in a split swinging gates. I finally got my posts put in a month ago, been busy with work and the cold has been **** for me to start building and hanging the gates. (weather is still **** but we will see what I can get done since I'm off work till the end of the year)

both posts are 4x6s that were concreted in. The one next to the house even has two lag bolts going into the house to help, Though I may rethink the drainage from the gutters

the 2nd post will also be tied into the existing post (though the existing post is a bit warped)

8DC44910-B232-4696-AE0B-163AB5AFD978_zpsxhvrlto9.jpg

I'm also going to have the guy who did most posts talk to a friend of his about some guttering on my house and the garage

Wis there a section missing? I have no clue.

FF78904A-0DB7-40B8-BC60-1D6FC53BD978_zpsn1f7dv9u.jpg

Why were gutters never put on the garage? no clue :-(

He is also going to give me a quote about running some 220 into my garage and putting a panel in so I can have different circuits for my lights, outlets, and future compressor.

Also a couple months ago I picked up this which I'll be tinkering on in the garage from time to time.

Re: My 24x24 Garage

a branch from a neighbor's tree fell yesterday. Luckily I didn't have anything parked there, and it went between my garage door and the suburban

Did you ever finish the LS swap?

Just stumbled across your garage thread and like it. Very similar to mine(24x26) and also very near each other. I'm also thinking about finishing the interior of mine so I appreciate the pics.

The whole problem is that you have WAY too much stuff in the garage. I'll drop by and help you get rid of the goat.

Not yet unfortunately, been too busy with work and not being setup properly in my garage. Hopefully as soon as I can get the garage finished inside, and get rid of the suburban I'll be able to start on it.

The suburban belongs to my brother, its actually been totaled out twice, I've informed him that it has been on my property for far too long and needs to be GONE ASAP!!!

I sold the Cavalier to buy the L33 motor ;-)

Just make sure to have all the electrical, insulation, and anything else you want done before drywalling, thats why I don't have it all up yet and I don't have it mudded yet.

Re: My 24x24 Garage

Small update

Soo these progress pics were actually from May of this year where I finally got my electrical redone and finished putting drywall up.

couple little touches

garage6_zpsf4a3e46c.jpg

garage7_zps0ded2877.jpg

Since I was having to do put some cabinets back up by myself I come up with this to help. Mounted it to the wall, then put my cabinet up and it held it in place while I secured the cabinet

garage2_zpsd5b38054.jpg

garage4_zps4ad427b6.jpg

This is actually how the garage is sitting right now. :-/

gtotbss_zps6f3c5db7.jpg

I still need to tape and mud everything, hopefully I can do that soon, but I'm always saying so who knows :( . My brother is finally parting out the burb and had told me what was ever left by the mid of Sept he would haul off to the junkyard. Well its October now and still there, minus quite a few parts, but most of the shell is still there.

I really am too patient. grrrrr lol

Thanks, once I start painting I need to decide how to blend the cabinets in as they are all different styles lol.

The TBSS is AWD ;-) works great in the winter.

Nice thing about the sticker is I got it from Freiburger in person

I met both Freiburger and Finnegan during the filming of their most recent episode with the Ford Wagon

Sweet addition to your stable! How the heck do you drive that during the winter without giving it a little more gas then it needs and throwing it around.

The AWD helps, this past year I was coming back from the the detroit auto show in a snow storm and and had no issues while other people did lol

some fun in the snow

Thats really cool you got to meet them in person. Was that clip filmed in Ohio?

I got to the start of the Power Tour here in Charlotte stupid late - and missed the Blasphemi - apparently they where doing burnouts on the AutoX course when I was checking in getting that time card stamped.

You mentioned you sold the Vert for a LS motor - do you have a build thread of the truck? I think I saw something on ProTouring a long time ago, but I'll be honest I haven't been keeping up to date on that site.

Nope it was filmed near Indianapolis, so my dad, brother, and I drove out there to meet them.

I do actually, though I haven't updated it in awhile since I haven't really done much lately too busy with work :-/

Btw I actually work during the week near Charlotte, in a town called Salisbury.

Your just up Interstate 85 from me.

Do you fly down to NC every week?

Next week is the Good Guys show, and the Detroit Speed open house - highly recommenced it if you can make it.

Re: My 24x24 Garage

So two issues I have I need some advise

On the footer you can see a line of excess material, do most just leave it or chisel it off?

And on this part I have a nice oil stain, any good suggestions?

Just paint it black using that CIL paint i mentioned and you won't notice any of that. I would however make an attempt to clean the oil first :)

Lol well yeah, I'm researching some stuff. I was thinking of the pour n restore, but some reviews are saying it's not as good as it used to be.
