I'd work with the belief that that isn't brass or bronze, but rather beryllium copper alloy.

You DO NOT want to inhale or otherwise ingest beryllium dust! It is a near-certain death sentence. Be careful how you clean that wrench.

BeCu was a common copper alloy for non-sparking tools used in dangerous environments.
