I'd work with the belief that that isn't brass or bronze, but rather beryllium copper alloy.

You DO NOT want to inhale or otherwise ingest beryllium dust! It is a near-certain death sentence. Be careful how you clean that wrench.

BeCu was a common copper alloy for non-sparking tools used in dangerous environments.

Is There a "Cadillac" of Monkey Wrenches?

Is it safe to say that monkey wrenches are often used as a hammer? Both the "Coes type" ("archetypical", I believe was the word used) "Monkey" wrench and many makes of "Bicycle Wrenches" employed the back side of the wrench head as a hammer, man's first tool. Some see more use than others. ;)
