I have a project that I will need a coil nail gun for Hardi siding and roofing. Max nail size is 2.5". This will see limited use so I don't want to spend $400+ on it. What do you like in coil nail guns? Any in particular to stay away from?

Just noticed that if you scroll down on that page I linked to, it actually compares one of their models to MajorDisorder's hitachi. Too funny.

I think ours is a Ryobi re-conditioned. Got it at one of those outlet stores when we were gonna help a guy with shingles.

I bought the HF roofing nailer a few years back for exactly what you're describing. Works fine for the average DIY Hero.

For Hardi siding I always use my framing nailer with a plastic foot. Works well, I just set the nail depth with an air regulator.

Roofing takes a different coil nailer than siding so you will need at least two guns.

For home use I look through the pawn shops and buy something that doesn't look completely beat to hell and functions properly when I test it. Hitachi, Senco, and Bostich (which also seem to get rebranded as Dewalt or PC as well) are most common pro gun names and everyone has a favorite out of those 3 names.

I have the Freeman $150 coil siding nailer that uses nail up to 2.5". I used it with a pancake compressor at my bro's house and it's pretty good ... can't confidently say because I only shot two rolls. I used 2" and 2.5" stainless steel shank nails. Everything bought from HD

I saw a video of someone shooting coiled siding nails in a Central Pneumatic (Harbor Freight) roofing nailer. It seemed to work but i thought the nail parameters might not work. It was on Youtube . But i think I would end up getting two different nail guns

I ended up with the Bostitch N-66C. It has handled the 2" nails nicely and fed reliably so far. I like it. The built in **** hook has been really nice to be able to hang it on a rafter securely while putting up the plywood. I'll start the Hardi this week and report back.
