Cold Chicago weather and Epoxy Installation

I live in Chicagoland area.... and it got cold in the past few days.... 50-60s during the day and 30-4s at night.. I have a standard attached garage...20x20 and I am thinking about installing an Epoxy solution....

I have few questions.... :
- can I get a garage like that completed in a colder weather?
- will the weather influence the curring process?
- can a job like that be done by a 3rd party... (contractor) fro less then $1500?

and a main question... there is so many kits out there.. I assume that all of them are good.. but are there some that I should stay away from?

Hello,

First of all Based on the label MOST epoxies will be able to be installed on SURFACE temps of 38-40 degrees MIN.

So If you are going to get it done, Do it quick.

As to the $1500, In my area you cannot. BUT, MAYBE you can. IF you find someone who will do it for $1500ish MAKE SURE YOU SEE a couple of his completed jobs.

If he says 'well I read all about it' RUN AWAY.

IF you have a budget you are willing to spend $1500, You would be best served by paying a little more than the Box store stuff.

They "MAY" work but, You would be better served by spending a little more and doing it right.

First, time is of the essence unless you can heat the garage. This weather will slow down your curing rate, so be ready to sit it out an extra day or two to proceed to topcoat.

Lastly, if you find someone willing to do the job for $1500, he's either a hack or using inferior products and cutting corners.

Spend a bit more and have a piece of mind.

Prices must be pretty steep south of the border: I called up half a dozen epoxy floor companies around Ottawa and received quotes that were in the order of 3 dollars per square foot for grinding/prep, epoxy, and PU top coat. That was 3 weeks ago. Your garage is 400 sq. ft. if my math is still working, so that would be around $1,200 in my neck of the woods. Now, I can do this myself for half that money, so I'm going the DIY route.

Mark, not all epoxies are created equal. I would stay away from water-based epoxies for one. This forum has plenty of good information. Grab a beer and start reading...
