I have a 45000 btu Hot Dawg that the flame will stay on for only 30-40 seconds then shut off. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Check the flame logs to see if all are lighting. I have had this problem in the past. If not all logs are lighting, then you have to open up the ends a little to allow the flame to jump from one to the other. I believe that there is a flame sensor at the top log that has to "feel" the warmth to keep the gas valve open. I don't remember the exact sequence, but if I remember correctly, it is the exhaust blower comes on, starts the ignitor sparking, the gas valve opens, the logs light from the bottom to top, the heat sensor kicks in and sends a signal to the valve to stay open, and then the blower moror comes on when there is heat in the heat exchanger. Is this a new problem, and the heater worked well in the past? If so, check to see if any spiders have built webs in the heater. Mine will make 2 attampts at starting, and then it shuts down on a safety. To reset it, you turn the thermostat off and then on again..

I am not familliar with the Hot Dawgs but I am sure its not the flame sensor so I would look at either of the other options mentioned here flame sensors in most Home Furnaces are desighned to shut the unit down within 7 seconds if they dont sense a flame I would assume it would be the same for these heaters.I will say though it is a good idea to clean your flame sensor at least once a year especially if running propane .

I do not know if yours is so equipped but my 35, 000 btu has a spark plug mounted in it as part of the ignition system. If yours is so equipped what about the spark plug? Also what about the push button ignitor?

I know NOTHING about these units, so FAIR WARNING.

Do they have a thermo-coupling similar to a gas water heater? Where it won't run if the thermocoupler is not working?

Reason I thought of this is because I had to replace mine (in water heater) twice in last 2 weeks.

Again, I have NO idea if they (hot dawg) even have one or not. While researching the water heater, I also saw lots of talk about the "orifice" not being large enough to let the gas flow. Is something like this a possibility on your unit?

mhoffman brings up a good point. Be sure you don't have a Hot Dawg configured for NG and you are running LPG, or visa versa.
