Well it's gotten to 12 ° today again and tonight is it will be single digits today. Normal winter average 45° , wind chill -4 today.
Anyway my shop will not get over 60° during the day with the minisplit and my aux.
4000w electric on 24hrs.
Time to consider more heat. I have gas run to the shop.

how many years you been at this garage and How often due you get weather this bad?

60 to me is a pretty workable temp. its not Ideal but workable and if you only have to put up with that temp for a week is it worth the expense and hassle to get more heat out there?

Insulation might be enough to get you a better working temp?

Supposed to be -16* here Monday night, it's already down to 30 in my shop and the heater was only able to get it to 42-43, and it was +6 today....the only good news is that it will be in the mid 40's by next weekend - if we survive!

Way too cold for me to work out there now, but I agree 60 is actually a pretty comfy work temp for me.

However, I would also go ahead and put a gas fired heater in there - doesn't cost anything outside of the initial expense if you can DIY, and you already have the gas supply run.

60 is perfect! 55* is a good shop temp for me.

Anyway, I wouldn't go changing anything for something that might happen every few years. Probably be quite a few people around here with heat that doesn't keep up the next couple nights, -28* low. We usually design for something like -15*

55-60 is awesome.
My shop got up to 30 today, but I wasn't trying to work in it.

On the north slope and in Fairbanks Alaska I've worked in hangars that had snow drifts inside with all the doors closed. -65 brings a whole new meaning to cold.

I agree, 60 is perfect. Start off with a sweat shirt and take it off once I get warmed up.
We only keep the house at 65-66 and down to 60 at night.

Geez I’m happy if I hit 45. Nat gas would definitely stick a heater in though. Cheap.

I’d def try adding more insulation. Then lastly a gas heater. Make sure vented, not ventless, unless you want all your tools and machines to rust.

I hate the cold but set mine around 60 to 65 and wear stocking cap and usually end up working in shirt sleeves. The shop is also only half way insulated so with todays temps I won't see any temps above 50.

72 in the shop today, with no heat on.
I'm going to have them foam the whole ceiling, and replace the fiberglass that only covers half of it.
On another note my OLD Homart,(Sears +Robuck) 1960's oil burner quit today.
Broken sensing spring that limits the heat before the lower kicks on.
Anyone know where I can get replacement parts.
