Colder Basement air for cooling

Hi,

We had an old furnace in our basement which had an blower attached to the outtake duct
which could blow the colder basement air into the duct system as a low key a/c.

Would that make sense to do something similar with a garage?

Meaning blowing the air from the house basement through a pipe into the garage.

The garage is a one level 20x24' and ~30' away from the house.
I have to dig a trench for electric/water anyway so I thought I could throw in a 4~6" pvc pipe in for that.

I live in western NC if that matters.

Have You done a Radon check ? If You are evacuating air from the house, the make up air will have to come in from outside, thru gaps around windows and doors, etc. Sounds like a waste of time and energy, but without more info, I am guessing. I am sure some of the knowledible HVAC Guys can tell You.

I think you already answered my question, I did not think about where the air is coming from.
While it`s an old house I am trying to update it so it`s more energy efficient and that means no gaps etc..

When I say basement it`s more like a not so professional updated crawlspace,
a third of the basement is still dirt and it is unheated.

It is never a good idea to connect air ducts between garage and living space. All building codes prohibit the practice. Basement and crawl spaces may be cool but usually humid as well.

What if your garage is finished like the house?

Mold and Mildew and Radon and who knows what else, maybe asbestos and lead leftover from construction debris all lurk in that dirt in the basement. I am highly allergic to mold myself, I used to choke and not be able to breathe 2 minutes after going into the basement of my wife's apartment when she worked in San Francisco. Made a believer out of me, you don't wanna breathe that air.

Our house is wrapped in 100% asbestos shingles so we are doomed anyway.
