A guy has a coleman 1850 generator for sale here locally. It appears to be in good condition in the photo. He wants 200 dollars for it. I'm looking for something to keep my batteries in my trailer charged and run a coffee pot. I don't know if it will have enough juice for the microwave or not but my friends does. Think 150 is a good deal or would my money be better spent on a new unit? This is assuming it fires right up and will run a load. If not, I'll walk away.

Thanks

I've got one, it's a 4 stroke so no having to mix gas although that makes it a bit heavier. I bought it new years ago (its older than the one you posted) and have been happy with it, I use it mostly for lights, occasionally to jump start cars and run a sump pump. The $200 does seem a bit steep, I agree with your $150 price.

Microwave and a light bulb no problem.
Older ones had Briggs motors, I had one of those that worked good, but looked well used. Sold for $130pretty easily, only becasue I scored an EU2000 that was an easy fix. Later ones had a Subaru motor, and run quieter. I'd spend 200 on that one if I needed a generator, or probably buy it for a hundred even if I didnt need it.

I had one of those, an older version. Ran it for almost 5 days straight during super storm Sandy. Kept a few lights a full-size refrigerator, gas burner, and a pump on my pond running with no problem. Gave it to a friend of mine and upgraded to a little bit larger unit.

Save your money for a few weeks and pick up a 2000 watt inverter generator. My Champons sold for around $400 and are quiet and reliable.Baring that option, I bought a 3750 watt at Menards last fall for $187. $150 for an older, used generator sounds like too much.

Yeah. I kinda think you are correct. It hasn't sold and he has dropped the price. I'm thinking it would be worth about 100 bucks. It's not an inverter generator and from the videos I've seen on YouTube, I can tell its noisy as hell. Not really something I'd want to be running in a quiet camp ground.

Mine are the older versions. They are quiet, but not Honda quiet.

There doesn’t seem to be an industry standard for noise testing methodology, so there is no way of comparing claims between the different manufacturers.

This leads to the inevitable GJ Honda vs the rest arguments.
