I have a Coleman Compressor, that has been rock solid for 15 years. It was running just fine, then I heard it slow down, then stop, and I heard the circuit breaker go off.
Changed the oil in the crankcase, put some WD-40 on the motor and on the pulley shaft, let it sit overnight. Came in and fired it up, ran great filled the tank and shut off.
When we used it, it turned over a few revolutions and flipped the breaker.
Thought it might be heat related, so I let it cool down.
By hand there is very little effort needed to turn the wheels.
After it cooled I turned it on and the same thing three revolutions and it stops and flips the breaker.
My first reaction is the motor, but am leary of letting run with no load.
It has been drained of all water.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Steve

Check your wiring connections and the capacitors in the motor...

Check your belt tension, if it's too loose it can cause that problem. (I know it sounds weird, but it happened to me and several other guys on this forum)...

Possibly the check valve, but if the unloader operation is okay then you know that is fine.

I agree that the start cap could be bad.

However I'd make sure your circuit is rated for the capacity and don't use an extension cord.
