Hello attached is picture of a tool box my dad gave me. I was looking at color matching the top of the bottom box because there was some slight rust on that area. Does anyone know what the closest color match spray can I can get? I will be putting a drawer liner probably on top of it afterwards to have the top box sit on that to protect.

Rustoleum Regal Red and Deep Slate. You'll have a hard time finding the Deep Slate in stores. I finally had to order it on line.

Ya Deep Slate that's a new one for me too. Sunrise Red is also popular and my be more common on some store shelves than the Regal Red these days. They are very very close in color the Regal being just a hair darker IMO.

Isn't there one called a Charcoal Gray? Not quite sure how the match is though

I was able to match a 1990s era Craftsman box very well using a 50:50 mix of Regal Red and Sunrise Red.

Not rattlecan though -- it has to be sprayed through your own gun or, I guess, brushed on and buffed out.

Went out today and got a can of the regal red. I haven’t painted yet, it did seem a tone darker then box so I am going do a test spot on something else to see how it looks. Grant it I think I am mainly painting the top of the bottom box which will have a drawer liner that way the top box sits on that so it won’t be that much noticed. The rest of box I am taking apart, washing it and then going try to use some Meguairs mirror glaze to make it look good.

Any recommendations on what oil to use on slides?

Sunrise Red matched my mid-late 80's box perfectly

When I recently rebuilt an old Red an Gray Craftsman I used a little marine grade wheel bearing grease (blue green stuff) but that was just me.

I had used a white lithium on my old tower some years ago drawers drag terrible right now I have to take them all apart clean and regrease them

I bought a couple of mid-70s Craftsman red and gray boxes and tried out the regal reds and etc at the local Ace Hardware. None of them really matched the box so the lady at Ace Hardware actually took my box, scanned the paint color with a paint machine, and made me up a can of paint that matched EXTREMELY well. If you're looking for a particular color to match well, this is the better way to go, for me at least.

I’ll try and get some wheel bearing grease. I had white lithium grease in a can and sprayed that but it removed some paint so don’t want to go that route now.
