I was wondering if I could have the concrete plant put color in my floor mix and have the finnisher polish it really well if it would hold up under normal use. instead of using Epoxy. I know they can color it, not sure how much. I e mailed the concrete plant and got a price on 4000 psi 3/4" stone its not bad $94 a yard and $8 per yard for fiber in the mix. I told him 8-9 yards. There's no delivery charge except on saturday then its $50 . That doesn't sound too bad of a price. Let me know what you think.

You should be able to order it coloured... they do all the time when doing stamped concrete. Not sure about in your area but it is about 3x the price for coloured up here. (they have to do up a special batch with the colour so that adds considerably to the cost)

It can also be coloured after the pour, just before finishing. The powder is sprinkled on and worked in with the final trowelling. Cheaper, but only colours the top.

Colorant shouldn't be anywhere near 3X... Much better and less expensive than screwing around with staining concrete after the pour.

When I last did it, I believe they just added the colorant to the mix after it was in the truck... Fully blended by the time of delivery.

I have done this for my own home.
Go online or locally and find a company that sells the dye/stain.
I think we used Direct Colors, http://www.directcolors.com/
We wanted gray for my project, so we added a black powder.

Tell your ready mix company that you will supply the dye. They will charge you a clean out fee. Usually, 25.00 to 50.00 per truck load.

You give the bag of powder to the driver, he puts in, very simple.
I used a bathroom scale to keep it consistent between loads.

Now you can polish and you will always have the color , all the way through the slab.

Good luck.

I'd like to know how it'd hold up also... possibly a good alternative to epoxy.

This is not acid staining.
This is CONCRETE DYEING.

Acid stain only changes the first 1/16". Dyeing is throughout the slab and is forever.
I would still recommend a clear sealer on the surface to help prevent stains.
