Beautiful job, Man.
Hi, new member here. I joined just to get the answer to this. I'm currently restoring my old 804 and am stuck at that ring holding the screw in! I really don't want to cut it. I see lots of beautiful 804s on here, and I'd really appreciate any info/tips anyone can give.I have one of these Columbian 804 vises as well. Mine was originally red and the previous owner painted it black.
I’m disassembling it to clean and repaint. I cannot figure out how to remove the ring/ lock washer ring looking thing that is holding the screw/ handle to the vise?
I also could not find anything online. Maybe my Google FU is just bad.
One I restored.. owner handed me the split ring.. actually got it here….Hi, new member here. I joined just to get the answer to this. Thank you for the replies! I had thought about replacing it with the collar and set screw they used on some of the newer ones, but the thought of drilling into the screw from an engineers standpoint... Well, it looks like E or C-clips seem to be the solution. Thanks again for the info! It's been near impossible to find out anything on the 804 outside of this forum. If it looks half as good as the ones I've seen on here when I'm done I'll post a pic.One I restored.. owner handed me the split ring.. actually got it here….
E-clips worked great, nice and snug.. so watch ya eyes, when you put them on, should you restore with the option. Because of the *width the broken retainer, I fitted on two. (5/8”)

Thank you! Came out much nicer than expected. I got it in pretty rough shape, the only thing that didn't need grinding was the screw! But fortunately it was built like a Sherman Tank! Thanks again for your help, Zeus. I've decided my old Wilton is next!Nice work! That mint green looks nice!!![]()
