So I got this girl from a scrap guy down the street. She tightened up and jaws came together good. Got her home to dismantle and realized the main vise nut was broke. The whole dove tail wasn't broke off. There was about a 1/4 still left on the front side. Went to visepart.com but it's out of stock. So I took out the tourch and brazed her up. She's pretty free spinning all the way up to 1/4 before the jaws meet. I'll have to fine tune the dovetail/bottom. Then she went into the sandblasted for a good dusting. Probably use her like this till I find another nut then tape and paint.
If anyone has a 504-4 nut for sale or a broken vise thats holding the door open let me know. Other sites claim to have the nut for 100-250$. Not sure if they have it, if they are for newer ones or if it's just a general item they think they sell. Can't justify that much for a damn cast nut even if they do sell it!
Almost forgot what started this whole process. That hunk of junk at the bottom broke about a week ago. Bought our 1st house 4yrs ago and needed a vise asap. So the wifey and go to homedepot and I figured if it broke at least with irwin on it they'd exchange it. Well wouldn't you know it irwin and homedepot broke up. So after ******* and moaning with them for a day they finally gave me a homedepot credit for 87$. Yahooooo more junk I can buy from them. Oh well, I'll buy some paint and lube for this old girl!
