Hey all new to Garage Journal with a question. I just bought a Columbian 604 1/2 M2 for $50. Got some marks on the slide but works great. Did I pay too much? I can post pics if I can figure it out. Thanks!
Holy cow you **** doesn't even start. Nice find! I think they started making that model in the 60s and still do but you have a older one because of the t jaws no clue on exact age though. I think the red might be the original color because my work has a green and a red Columbian of the same model in the shop.
Yes, you got a HECK of a deal, you definitely ****!
Age... Hmm... Well, it's an M2, so it's a previous generation, the current ones are M3... I like the M2's better with the T jaws, plus you know those are good classic American made. If I had to guess, I would say somewhere between the 60's - 80's...
Thanks all. I have been looking for a vise for a while now and stumbled onto this forum and read up on them. I happened to find this one on Craigslist in Indianapolis (about 2 hrs north of me). I lucked out and spelled 'vise' V-I-C-E and this one popped up. I figured it was a decent one and gave him a call. I wanted to make sure it wasn't made in China and started asking about serial numbers. I was getting more excited the more he talked. I told him I would take it and asked if he was SURE it was $50. He said yes and I drove up there today. I got hung up getting my oil changed and was an hour late (I called to let him know I would be late). By the time I got there it was raining and I was picking it up from his wife. I felt bad about being late so I gave her $60. With gas for the truck and the extra $10 I paid her I still spent less than $100. Plan on disassembling and cleaning it up, probably paint it with some red Rustoleum and mount it on my bench. Now all I need is an anvil. Anyone know where I can get one for $50? Lol
I have an old 604. Bought it "retail" off ebay shipped to my door for $125. I don't think I did too bad. It was in turnkey condition, including being smothered in anti-seize on the screw (best lube for vises, ever). You got a good deal on the vise ***** you had to spend $40 in gas to get it!
