Purchased a Columbian 604 at a garage sale today for $1.00 (yes! $1.00)
It is stamped 604 (which matches jaw width) but I see very few other markings. It looks like it had been painted black (OEM or user unknown).
The Columbian name is in arched letters (see photo if I can figure out how to attach it) which I believe means pre-WWII. Is this correct?
Are there other markings I should be looking for? How are the M series marked?
I have disassembled it (except not figuring out how to remove the threaded housing inside the main body...I have removed the set pin). Overall, it appears to be in great shape except for surface rust, etc. on exterior. Screw threads are in excellent shape. Only downside is that swivel clamp lever is missing.
Any help with age, other identifying factors, and general value would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dave
