I picked this really cool Columbian Vise from a local estate sale and would like to know a little about it before listing for sale. From what I have gathered so far it is a Coachmakers/Bodymakers vise no.124 1/2? What caught my attention was how wide it opens.
(11" fully extended and still contacting the lead screw) Not sure on the date of the vise or value but it is a very unique vise that I have never seen before and is in great condition. I am a Tool and Die maker of 30+ years so I know a thing or two about machinist vises. But again, I have never seen anything like this before. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

A few more pictures in the open position. From what I can tell the vise has been stripped of all original coatings or Japanning. The jaws are way higher than what I am used to and I wouldn't want to hammer on it like I do with my Wilton Bullets or Reeds. It is in great condition though. So whoever owned this really took great care of it.
