I finished up my first restoration: a Columbian D43 ½ M3 bench vise, (noticing the member Car Hobby posting his own Columbian resto earlier tonight. Kismet!)
I got it as a flea market impulse buy and then promptly bought a sandblaster, oil, grease, paint, wire wheels and went to town. Reading this forum and watching various restorations was a majority of the inspiration to get going - this place is brimming with informative and inspirational people.
The whole thing was equal parts engineering, creative painting, tension and zen. I'm in!

Very nice resto. May I ask what paint you used? I have a 503 that I am planning to restore but am unsure of the correct paint color and type. Thank you.

Surely! I went and took a picture to make sure. I would defer to others more knowledgeable on this forum, but I'm pretty happy with this paint. "Sunrise Red" Rustoleum.

Nice work, especially for a newbie.
As I’m sure you can verify, it’s tough to paint the raised lettering without making a mess. There are several different techniques that others have used for that. What, may I ask, did you do to get such good results?

Thanks - the patience to be methodical was learned, only took me half a century.
As for the lettering, I went to the local art store and bought paint markers. Older members here can suggest more permanent solutions, I figured the lettering wasn't part of the surface that would see much direct contact.
