Columbian vise help

Hello,

I'm finally cleaning out the detached 2 car garage in my backyard. Bought the house about a year and a half ago and it was filled with junk. There is a massive work table that was buried under said junk. After getting it mostly cleaned out i discovered 2 vises were attached to the table. One is a craftsman wood working vise. The other is a Columbian Autograt 414? It seems pretty old. But from the great post on vises I read today by mjozefow it seems the jaws should be help on with pins, and they are help on with flat head screws recessed in the jaws. It also has a swivel base. Here are two pictures.

Any info on this vise would be much appreciated. Also, the vise tightens nice and smoothly but when u back it out it has to be pulled by hand after loosening. Any idea what may be wrong, and is it fixable?

Thanks

Yep, collar /retainer/cotter pin, whatever, is supposed to back out the jaw.

getting this a snug fit is also the way to get near instant response when opening the jaw. if its loose/sloppy, you have to turn until the slop is used up

Nice finds for a junk pile!
