So I was helping a friend clean out what is left of his Dad's estate, and he gave (made me take) this vise among other things. I'm curious that it has no replaceable jaws, and what's there looks awfully thin. Is it normal, or has someone over the years maybe cut the jaws down for some unknown reason?

That's totally normal.

Other than the chip from the jaw, looks like you have fully functional vise. I'd say lube it up and put to work !! It will give you another 100 years of service !! ;)

Nice vise to get for free. See the GJ thread Vise Repair 101 for teardown information and likely other Columbians in there.

Naw...I'm thinking just try to flip it. Those jaws look way too delicate for me; I really have no finesse, and the type of work I normally do is too crude I'm sure. Someone else will love it properly.
