Columbian Vise ???

I have a coworker who may be willing to sell me this 5” Columbian vise. Unfortunately, that’s all the info I have at the moment.

What can y’all tell me about it and what should I offer for it?

I have one like that. 60lb if I remember correctly. Used it couple of times for larger projects (for me) - works well.
Paid $10, some rust (condition appears to be similar to the picture above) eventually will restore when I have time...
I would offer 20-30 for it (I got mine cheaper as it was the price of the garage sale...)

Not the same vise, the hf is a **** version of that style. Very very crude. Obviously it is a Chinese import though.

I've had a few of that Columbian. I believe it's the exact same as the current Wilton version, they just switched names several years ago.

I thought that style were all **** unless they are the original NuTyp made in USA

I've never seen the nutyp or the other old USA version in person but I've had about all of the import models at one time or another. None of them are amazing. I mainly like them for holding other vise parts for painting.

There are numerous pics of the HF ones with the Jaw blow off. Thin hollow casting, and brittle iron. Junk.

There were two companies back in the day, nutyp and I forget the name of the other. All modern ones are Asian.

I've got a Columbian, and I've only used it a handful of times, primarily for holding.

I don't know much about it, but it handles basic functions without issue.

If you just need a vise for basic stuff, and the price is right, it's not awful. I don't know anything about it's heavy-duty capabilities.

Best use is for a welding or brazing positioner. Works great to get smaller parts positioned just right.
