Combination wrench length over the years seem to have gotten longer, in the <3/4 or 19mm anyway. As a millwright, I used a Gray set from the '80s.These were the same length as Proto, Craftsman, or Snap-On of their day. On my last job, 6 years ago, my tools might have gone missing so I picked up on sale a set of Mastercraft Maximum combinations. These were longer in smaller sizes.
In these small sizes, I'm not sure if that's much an advantage. I was working on my quad and even the Gray was too long, so grabbed a stubby and muttered the magic words, "That was easy."
