Bought some of the Seville cabinets from Sams last week for the attached garage and moved a Craftsman roll around back to the detached garage. I had another one just like it and didn't want to lose the floor space. So I cut some spare 2 bys, glued them up and painted them red. And stacked the cabinets.
The final product:

Edit: I should clarify that these chests started life as project centers - the ones with plastic tops like the top box. They don't have side handles or boxed frames like the roll-away tool chests have and do seem to be built somewhat cheaper than the tool boxes. I don't think they were ever designed to be stacked and I am going to avoid putting too much weight in the top box. Having said that, I'm sure they can still take a reasonable amount of weight.

Cool, I need to get a much larger roll-a-way but don't want to spend much. We have a sears outlet store I need to visit. Do you see any difference with the "modified" combo than the factory setup? 930

The roll arounds were the cheap ones - one was a present and one I bought but they were less than $100 apiece when new. As such, they don't have the best slides and aren't the premium boxes so they don't handle heavy loads well. My plan is to keep the heavy mechanics tools in my main box and use this box for woodworking, plumbing, electrical, etc. tools and supplies. Nothing too heavy for this box. Although the project centers I used to build this were the same dimensions as my roll away they do seem to be built more cheaply.

not all so long ago there werent many toolboxes over 36" wide, the way to gain storage space was to go up.
many busy shops just didnt have the floor space for the larger multibay boxes you see now.
thats a great idea to save floor space
in my small 2 car garage i've been forced to stack vertically to gain needed floor area.. everything that i can get off the floor, or under something else makes more room
i'm in the process of moving from a rented 35x45 space back into a19x22, that has to hold the wifes SUV, my harley, and an off road only s-10 blazer, and all my tools, spare parts, and "stuff" :wtf:

as ya can see, even without the blazer in there, i dont have much room:headscrat
