Two nights ago, my Comfort Zone 220volt garage heater (model number CZ279PC) began emitting a burning electrical smell of some kind. I was able to shut it down before a fire broke broke out in the garage. The unit itself is still fully intact. I removed the top housing of the unit, expecting to find melted/burnt wires - but found nothing.

This unit comes with a pre-installed NEMA 6-50 cord/plug. I've had no issues with the heater since it was purchased 2 years ago.

Curious as to this issue is a one time occurrence, or if other users have experienced this as well.

Thank you.

could it have just been a smell from dust or something ?
Definitely smelled like electrical components burning. I've heard rumors of some Comfort Zone models having wiring/electrical issues. But never ran into an issue with the one I have until just recently.

I had a similar experience, so I don’t think this is a one time issue. I noticed a burning smell a day before and ignored it, thinking it might be from the car, though I suspected the heater. The next day, while it was running, my daughter noticed a strong burning smell and when I opened the garage it was filled with smoke. The heater had shut off, and there were no other electrical issues in the house. I haven’t opened the unit yet. If you smell anything burning, don’t take it lightly. I know this post is old, but I’m sharing this for future reference in case it helps someone avoid a serious problem.
