I have two big overhead doors. They appear to have an allstar brand motor with what seems like the typical control buttons....black rectangular box with an open, close, and stop button. The previous owner had a door bell button wired into the control to strictly open the door. I am disconnecting this for security reasons. I had a different thought though, can a key pad be easily wired into this control by chance? This would be very simply due to where it is located.

What openers do you have, we have all lift master that was fitted with both a key pad and remotes. Just contact your dealer, they should be able to set you up.

Yes they make wired commercial keypads, contact Allstar and they can get you going. Keep in mind most of the commercial units have very specific wiring diagrams. If you are adding a control, you will have to pay attention. Open and close are NO switches but the stop button is NC. Many units have a wiring diagram on the inside cover of the motor. Not hard at all. Good luck.

In basics with a 3 wire control for start/stop which is probably "4 wire" for a directional signal, additional Start(s) go in parallel with the original and additional Stop(s) go in series with the original.
Typically I think you'd want the keypad to just parallel the Up/Open function of the door and not deal with any of the other functions.
But as others have mentioned, a detailed study and understanding of the wiring diagrams are needed to DIY or consultation with OEM.
