Unfortunately I'm a city dweller with only a three car garage. I have to set up and break down my tables almost every day and night. So, size, portability and convenience of set up and tear down are important. No room for anything permanently anchored inside the garage.

I have several tables for different needs.
2) 3' x 4' home builds with 1/2" steel tops, jet cut slots for Strong Hand clamps, leveling
casters, reciever hitch tubes for rollers and vises.
1) Strong Hand Nomad with 3/8" steel top slats, removed the tin POS top.
1) Vise mounted mini, 14" x 14" quick weld table
1) In transit: Certi flat 2' x 4' top for quick set up on saw horses

At home I have several of the Harbor Freight "Nomad" clones they work... I have a Nomad connector plate and that is nice as well they fold up and hang on a rack I made on the wall. But I would love to have a nice table at home... just no room for it.

One guy here has a 3 inch thick top mounted on an old version of an in floor vehicle lift. It rotates.

Kinda curious. How did your first table fall short?

Which plastic boxes for small part storage did you choose?

It didn't fall short...I love my table...but was limited in space in this house. I have a house I will retire to in a bit and I built a 3200 foot garage/shop...so doing it right for that place building a fab table. Will continue to use the slated table for weld up...the big one for oversize work...

Do you have any old equipment in your shop that can easily be transformed into a welding table?

In my shop, I had an old Delta contractor table saw with a broken trunnion that was not repairable. I bolted a 3' x 4' piece of 1/4" plate on top, and it now serves as both a welding table and an out feed table for my new table saw. The plate was a little concave in the center, but after bolting it down it is very flat.

There is enough overhang on all four sides to attach clamps. If the plate ever gets in really bad shape, it would be easy to unbolt it and replace the plate. I don't do that much welding, so this weld table will probably last my lifetime.
