I often fix things when I notice they're broken etc...

One of my favorites is to take channel locks & a pick when I stay at a hotel in Califailure. I unscrew the shower head & remove that stupid goddamn rubber flow restriction doodad so I can have a proper shower instead of the restricted version which is like standing under the nozzle on a Hudson sprayer.
I'm sure future guests appreciate it too.
I pull the restrictors out as well plus bring my own compact full-flow (self-modified) shower head. Aircraft cannon plug pliers, 8-inch Crescent wrench, Teflon tape, and a Machinist's scribe in a zippered case with the shower head.

couldn't find the 1/2" collet for my Porter cable router and needed to build some basement stairs .
Borrowed a friends brothers Makita that had a typical old makita fraying cord. replaced it before I went to use the router .
while using the router, I dropped it & broke off the top adjustment knob . ****. If I recall the part was discontinued .
took it back to owner & said I have good news & I have bad news. the good news is.... the bad news, I broke the adjustment knob. I have to figure something out to fix it for you.
Ralph said, ahh, don't worry, I never liked that router, you can keep it, It gives me a good reason to go buy a new one..
Wheew !

Started when I stayed at a friend's house about 30 years ago and fished out all the hair and gunk in his clogged bathtub drain.

Latest effort, similar to a post I read above, my son got a the rare inexpensive apartment in a nice part of town. He has an overlap on the leases, so there was some time before he moved in.

There was lots of little stuff like doors that wouldn't shut right and broken screens that got fixed, and some bigger stuff like a garbage disposal that was installed all wrong and leaked. Replaced wall plates that had been painted over with extras I had laying around. It was obvious landlord/handyman was either incompetent or just didn't care, so seemed easier to do it all myself.

I used to pack a telephone shower to swap out the low flow head . only thing I had to remember to remove it when leaving

That's not reverse vandalism, since it wasn't vandalism in the first place ;)

You are a "silent fixer"

That doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

It's vandalism because you did something that wasn't authorized.

But it's in reverse because it's to the benefit, not the detriment, of the recipient.

My thread start; I get to define the terms and set out the rules here. :)
