Hi all. I searched and read through a bunch of exhaust pipe (horizontal vs vertical) threads, but didn't see any pertaining to tying into an existing pipe. I've got a water heater closet right next to where the 50k BigMaxx is mounted and have been agonizing over whether I should do a horizontal or vertical duct. Now to further paralyze me, I'm considering tying into the existing water heater exhaust.
Far as I can tell, it appears to be 3" all the way up. Pics show it through the garage ceiling, takes a couple 45s and then exits through the roof. Is it possible to tie my heater into this pipe and save myself a roof penetration? The only mention of common exhaust in the manual just states that it can't be used in a horizontal fashion. Is there a spec on how many BTUs a 3" duct can support?
